Creating a Cosy Stitching Space

As well as making beautiful designs, embroidery is also an opportunity to unwind and enjoy a moment of peace, and make the most of some me-time! I know for most of us, the only time we get to sit down and relax is the evenings, once the kids have gone to bed and the kitchen is cleared from dinner.

To truly get the most out of that pocket of time, it’s so nice to have the right cosy place to settle down into. Also, having a dedicated space to embroider can totally transform your experience, making it even more relaxing and enjoyable!

Ready to create your cosy stitching space? Let’s do this!

Find the Perfect Corner/Space

Start out by finding a quiet and comfortable corner or space that you like to stitch. It could be a nook in your living room or snug, a window seat, or even a cosy corner of your bedroom. The key is to choose a space where you can sit comfortably (and undisturbed!) for your moment of me-time.

Comfort is Key!

Comfort is super important – cosy and comfort are part of the same language, and go a longgg way in creating your perfect stitching set up. I don’t know about you, but I love to surround myself in cushions on the sofa and get super comfortable when I stitch. Plus that gorgeous thick blanket makes an appearance in the colder months!

This also helps for back support, you can prop yourself up to ensure you’ve got the correct posture whilst stitching.

Organise your Supplies

Nothing is more frustrating than getting super cosy and snuggled, and then realising you haven’t got your needle, or the right colour thread. Keep your embroidery supplies neatly organised in a nearby basket or storage box so you can easily get to it whilst stitching.

Equally, a cluttered space can have the opposite effect of relaxation. Be sure to tidy away any muddles (or at least move them from your space whilst you sit down to stitch!).

Make the Space ‘Yours’

Surround yourself with the things that make you happy! Whilst not essential, it will increase your dopamine levels and allow you to settle in and relax even easier. Maybe you’d like to add some plants to your little nook to bring some nature indoors, or light a scented candle to set the warm and cosy vibe. You may even want to play some calming music or listen to your favourite podcast.

Also, if it’s going to be your sanctuary, why not hang up some of your previous works of art? If you’ve completed some embroidery projects that you’re proud of, put them on display with pride! Adding in these happy personal touches can go a long way to creating the perfect stitching corner.

I’m a true believer that embroidery is not just about the end product. It is mostly about the journey of embroidering, including taking your time with the stitches, but also the tranquillity and sense of ‘calm’ that it can bring. Your cosy stitching place awaits, my friend!
