Why Digital Embroidery Patterns Are the Easiest Way to Keep Stitching
If you've just fallen in love with embroidery (yay! Me too!) and you're ready to keep stitching more projects, there’s a super easy way to keep the momentum going: digital embroidery patterns.
In this post, I’ll share why digital patterns are a stitcher’s best friend when you want to keep learning, growing, and creating - without having to wait for the postman, and without having to buy a whole new kit every time! PLUS I’ll show you some of my most beginner-friendly designs to get started with 🤭
Are ya ready? Let’s dive in! 👇🏼
Wait… Are Digital Patterns Good for Beginners Too?
Yes - but with a little caveat! 👀
If you're an absolute beginner and have never tried hand embroidery before, I always recommend starting with a fully curated kit like the Beginner Blooms Bundle. This is because a comprehensive Beginner Embroidery Kit has got everything you need (quality embroidery hoops, the right embroidery fabric, high quality embroidery threads, guides, and maybe even videos!) to learn embroidery from scratch, from your very first stitch 🥰
Having all the materials + supplies delivered to your door means that you don’t experience the overwhelm + confusion that comes from trying to figure out what supplies you need, and whether or not they were fit for purpose.
BUT, once you’ve finished that first project (or two), and you’re feeling more confident? Digital embroidery patterns are a fabulous next step!
Why Digital Embroidery Patterns Are the Easiest Way to Keep Stitching
Once you’ve got your hoop, threads, and basic tools, digital patterns are the most affordable, flexible way to stitch to your heart’s content. Here’s why:
✅ Instant Access
There aren’t any shipping delays or extra costs for supplies that you don’t need - you can download your pattern today (from any creator anywhere in the world) and start stitching straight away!
✅ Affordable + Reusable
You can print your pattern as many times as you like — practice it, re-stitch it, or try it in different colours for fun. My fave motto for embroidery is “practice makes improvement”, so you truly can use PDF Embroidery Patterns to practice your stitching.
Not to mention, they’re way cheaper than buying full embroidery kits with all the supplies - but they’re still packed with all the instructions that you’d get in a regular kit. More on that below! 👇🏼
✅ Full of Clear, Beginner-Friendly Instructions
When you purchase digital embroidery patterns from real artists, they will come with:
- Printable pattern templates/outlines
- Step-by-step guides, with either photo and/or video instructions
- Stitch diagrams and colour recommendations
- Friendly tips to help you stitch with confidence
PDF Patterns from real artists are usually priced between £5-£10 - if the pattern is cheaper than that, be prepared to have little or no instructions at all, and for the possibility that it could actually be AI-generated.. (AKA, not a real embroidered piece!)
But anyway, that’s a topic for a whole other day. In all of our Mindful Mantra Embroidery PDF Patterns, you’ll find:
- Black + white pattern outline for tracing
- DMC Colour Guide
- Stitch/Reference Guide
- Step by step instructions for all the stitches you need
- Video tutorials for ‘Embroidery 101’ foundational techniques in the included Beginners Guide, like prepping your fabric and hoop, and tracing your embroidery pattern to fabric.
It’s like I’m stitching right beside you (minus the snacks 😂)
What You’ll Need (Now That You're Not a Complete Beginner Anymore!)
If you’ve already stitched an Embroidery Kit or two, you probably already have most of this:
- Fabric (cotton or linen)
- Embroidery thread + needles
- Wooden embroidery hoop
- A way to transfer the pattern (like a lightbox, window, or a tablet)
Need a top-up of supplies? I’ve got beautiful kits and extras in the shop too 👀
So, what else do you need?
- A way to transfer your PDF pattern onto fabric - usually a printer, or a tablet like an iPad for tracing.
- A cosy drink (tea, coffee, or even a glass of wine 🍷) so you can settle in and enjoy the process.
- And while it’s not technically a need, stitching PDF patterns is so much better when you can share your progress with a community of fellow stitchers!
